NAME : Shirley Garrier & Mathieu Zouhairi
PROFESSION : Food photographers, authors & creative directors
SPOT : Marché de Bastille, Paris
There are some people you naturally end up crossing paths with in Paris. Not through planned meetings or formal collaborations, but because you spend time in the same places, know the same cafés and move around the same neighborhoods. The Social Food is part of that. For years, Shirley and Mathieu have been documenting food culture through photography, books and travels. Restaurants, markets, producers or family-run places. Always with a very direct approach. Simple images, real places and everyday moments around food.
We had already met several times over the years through friends, dinners and events around Paris. Working together eventually became obvious.
For this series, we spent a morning following them through their usual Paris routine. We started at the Bastille market, one of the places they know best. Fish stalls opening, oysters on ice, people carrying bags back home, cafés slowly filling up. A very ordinary Paris morning, which is exactly what we wanted to capture. After the market, we followed them back home and photographed part of their daily environment there as well. Their kitchen is a place many people already recognize through The Social Food. Shelves filled with bowls, cooking tools hanging on the walls, groceries from the morning market still sitting on the table. Just their space as it is.
