THE NUBUCK
The nubuck is positioned at the front of the shoe, an area particularly exposed to friction and impact. This panel reinforces the toe area and creates the characteristic contrast of the German Army Trainer.
The combination of smooth leather and nubuck gives the shoe its instantly recognizable visual identity.
THE RUBBER SOLE
The outsole is molded from a single block of rubber, a simple and robust construction suited to the shoe’s original purpose.
Its raised tread increases grip on the ground, while the flexibility of the rubber follows the movement of the foot while walking.
THE TONGUE
The Universal Surplus signature is debossed directly into the tongue.
This detail references the technical and identification markings found on military equipment.
THE HEEL MARKING
The number debossed on the back of the shoe corresponds to its size in centimeters.
Historically, this marking was placed on the outsole. Universal Surplus chose to reposition it at the back of the shoe.
THE PACKAGING
The pair is packed in a semi-transparent zippered pouch, allowing the product to remain visible through the material while still being protected.

THE BEST SNEAKERS
This model is a reinterpretation of the iconic German Army Trainer, often referred to as the GAT. Its origins date back to the 1970s, when it was developed for the German military, the Bundeswehr, or BW. Designed for training, it is a functional, durable, and robust shoe.
Its construction is instantly recognizable: a leather base, nubuck panels, and a rubber sole.
Its minimalist design allows it to be worn with almost anything, from shorts to tailored trousers. A distinctive and timeless pair, designed as an everyday essential.
To develop THE BEST SNEAKERS, BRUT called on Universal Surplus, whose work and expertise are closely connected to military clothing and equipment.
